So, the Oxford English Dictionary added LOL and OMG to the dictionary. I’m not sure how to feel about this. Because they are abbreviated phrases right? Not necessarily words. But if you look at the false morpheme of LULZ, ok, sure you can say that phonetically, lulz. It becomes a singular word, but OMG, is a little suspect. But are they just sucuumbing to current popular usage. Because, shouldn’t they have included ASL about 15 years ago. I remember ASL being super prevalent. If they are going to delve into popular acronyms, I just think the acceptance of those two, without the inclusion of others just calls into question all kinds of subjective reasoning behind the canonization of words. OMG OED LOL.
